WELCOME TO M+HN // XOFY RELEASE // UPCOMING NUPELA ALBUMS // LOOKING FOR INFO ON K.U.

WELCOME TO M+HN
Hello and welcome to Malaya + Her Neighbours, a network of artists with a unique philosophy and aesthetic that aims to operate as a record label, production company, publishing house, or anything artists need, as their needs be. Our mission is to support and conduce the creation and dissemination of sincere artwork through the subversion of traditional pretensions on media.

If you really like comics, but you don't feel satisfied making graphic novels or strips, the traditional forms the medium takes, we encourage you to find your own--make a multi-path unfolding comic cube, or paint it on the side of a building forty feet tall. If you're not satisfied by orthodox dance forms like jazz and tap, why not try violently convulsing to your own internal rhythms? Standing perfectly still?

We support projects where style and skill levels are irrelevant; instead, we find value in a concept called malaya. Malaya is the artistic drive that makes us human, the subject of many late night dialectical arguments. It's the spirit that comes out in collaboration and stream-of-consciousness work. It's the feeling of being honest with yourself, your audience, your art, and your partners. If talent is current, the measure of electrons moving through a circuit, malaya is voltage, the force on those electrons.

The world is extremely divided. Art is no longer a major factor in philosophy and life like it was in the time of the Modernists or Romatnics. This blog will follow the malayan movement as it spreads, posting updates on shows and releases from Malayan projects and M+HN's members. We'll also be posting stuff that we feel represents our philosophy on art and life to hopefully give some inspiration to you folks.

XOFY1 DROPS TODAY

"XOFY is a public self-exploration musical production series. With each XOFY, participants have 36 hours to produce a solo EP on the iteration's theme. [...]

Every XOFY issue is a collective work -- made up of many works, but meant to be heard as a single piece. "

XOFY1, with the themes of aloneness, self + society, and descent, comes out today with EPs by Tenant of Neptune and Crybaby of Venus, two extra-terrestrial outfits with a decentralised sound and creative process. Tenant is ambient pop with acoustic guitar, body noises, and sounds from their apartment, while Crybaby draws inspiration from noisehip hop, and drone -- all made with a cappella stems.

UPCOMING NUPELA ALBUMS
First off, we're overcome to announce that we have reissued all of Nupela Masalai's material released to date with new (actually old) memoirs and dialogues from the band members. Nupela has nine full LPs recorded and mixed, and they're currently macheteing through the jungle of mastering and uploading their discography. Expect plentiful new releases from them soon, including Epistemology, their third album and first with Liam Fenton. The tracks are going to be similar to track #5 (Halfway Out of Our Minds) and #9 (Blood and Bones) off their mixtape, which were both originally recorded for Epistemology. Selected songs off the upcoming release include a 12-minute Caveman-style drumming sequence, and a 13-minute analysis of wartime economics. The record will explore the question of knowledge itself with a focus on psychedelic rock and folk . For a refresher on Nupela Masalai, visit their page, or browse their bandcamp here.

LOOKING FOR INFO ON K.U.
Kingston Underground was a local punk community that collapsed a while before our time. M+HN member Dylan Head recently found some tapes by The Amphetamines, one of the community's founding groups, and his tribute band has been extremely popular among the collective.

We feel K.U. paved the way for Malaya + Her Neighbours in a lot of ways, and we're actively seeking to rights to their old material to re-release it with proper mastering under our label.

If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of former Kingston Underground members or how we can contact them, we urge you to e-mail us at malayaandherneighbours@gmail.com

Thanks for reading! We're certain this is the beginning of a beautiful and gentrification-free neighbourhood!
